Anne Sawyer-AItch stilters classThis August marked the third year of Anne directing the Kalevala Puppet Pageant of New York Mills Regional Arts Center. From stilting bears to a skateboarding witch, the townspeople of New York Mills and Wadena created a magical ending to the Annual Corn Feed.

More recently, Anne’s company Magic Lantern Puppet Theater finished off a month-long program at The Family Partnership. Children saw a puppet show, made their own puppets and musical shakers, and celebrated at the end with a dance party and a book giveaway. This program was made possible by a Partners in Arts Partcipation grant through the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Magic Lantern also received an Arts Learning grant through the Metropolitan State Arts Board. Storyteller Julie Kastigar Boada and puppeteer Anne Sawyer will work with students to make puppet shows about their imaginary ideal day.

msabThis activity is funded, in part, by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the state’s general fund.
